It will then direct you to a listing of Food Banks in your area!
Then you can get involved and help your local area fight hunger!
Support Hunger Revolutions
The AARP has set up a program called the "Drive to End Hunger." This program helps you get involved with the growing hunger problem of the United States. There's events and programs to help make your mark in this fight. You can also help by donating food or money to the foundation. There's also an emphasis on senior citizen's hunger problems with nearly 9 million older adults at risk.

Shocking Number of American Families Going Hungry
With the Thanksgiving that has just passed and Christmas approaching, many families are having a difficult time putting together a family meal. Food prices are up 13 %, and 1 in 6 families just don't access to enough food. And it's not just around the holidays. The widespread hunger epidemic has been steadily getting worse.
"How Change Happens When People Come Together"
If you are wondering how you can use your online community, tools, and social media to affect change, you should probably pick up this book.In Here Comes Everybody, Clay Shirky attempts to explain group behavior and their organization online. It is an easy read with highly entertaining and relevant examples of how, with the right tools, people can organize outside of the traditional hierarchy. Specifically, Shirky provides a foundation for understanding the types of group interactions and formation that take place as well as the type of activities and contributions different members make to these groups.
The book does a great job of outlining what is going on in society today as a result of people adopting these tools as an effective way to organize, communicate, and take collective action. It also provides examples of how teens have led activist movements to affect change.

Social Media- A Tool?
The facts presented on this video are interesting, but take a few moments to think about the following concepts.
“73% of wired American teens” now use social media, and “47% of online adults use social networking sites (Lenhart, 2010)."
In Here Comes Everybody Clay Shirky argues that “society is not just the product of its individual members; it is also the product of its constituent groups,” and social media provides the tools for people to organize in groups. It allows people to organize without using the model of traditional hierarchy, and gives users and members the freedom to make what they want of social tools (Shirky, 2008).
Furthermore, technology and communication tools remove obstacles such as locality of information and barriers to group reaction (Shirky, 2008).
Keeping these concepts in mind, how we can use these advancements in technology and social media to affect change? How can we use the community of HOH to spread awareness about hunger in the U.S.? How can we inspire other teens to initiate strategies to end hunger in their local area?

How many people are actually food secure in the US?

This website from the United states Department of Agriculture shows food security in the United States through graphs and statistics for the year 2010. Food security means households had access at all times throughout the year to enough food for a healthy lifestyle for all members of the family. The site also shows the number of food insecure families living in the United States during that time. Food insecurity means at some times during the year, the household had a difficult time or was unable to provide enough food to meet the needs of all members of the family. This was due to low income or insufficient resources for food.
Check out these statistics and take action against hunger in the United States.
Teens Affecting Change
Here's an example of how teens are helping to bring awareness to hunger in their local area. These students from Soddy Daisy High School are leading a campaign to help their local Food Bank collect cans for the hungry. How can you affect hunger in your local area? Get together with friends and research online about ways to help your community. Take an example from these inspiring teens and "can-it."
